Regular Season Round 5: Meralco Bolts - KCC Egis 81-80

The most exciting game of round 5 in the East Asia Super League took place in Manila. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 4th placed South KoreanEgis (0-2) to third ranked Filipino Bolts (2-1) 81-80 on Wednesday evening. Meralco Bolts dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Egis ' 32 and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Meralco Bolts outrebounded KCC Egis 48-31 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 22 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward DJ Kennedy (198-1989, college: St.John's) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. American swingman Deonte Burton (193-1994, college: Iowa St.) produced 26 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Leon Williams (203-1986, college: Ohio) added 9 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the guests. Despite that victory Meralco Bolts went down to seventh position due to points difference. KCC Egis at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with SM Beermen and HK Eastern.
